Artist's Description
“DEEP is inspired by a particular act of an amazing cirque show in Las Vegas. The song from the black-and-white scene is titled ‘Deep’ and shows a figure below the surface of projected, simulated water. One morning, while listening to the music from this scene, I visualized it in a flood of color—the figure surfacing the deep, ocean blues to the red-orange sunset sky. Fresh in my mind’s eye, I hurried and grabbed my drawing pad and color-sketched it. The figure was drawn from a picture I took of myself in pose and used the ‘blind contour’ technique (drawing without looking at the paper) to abstract it. The bubbles and figure catch orange light from the sunset. Some people see the figure as drowning, while others see it surfacing. For me, the message is about going ‘deep’ within oneself and surfacing to discover a beautiful, powerful being.” ~Darin Jones
About Darin Jones
BIO: Darin Jones is a unique and diverse artist--ranging in styles from photo-realism to abstracts and mediums from graphite to acrylic--while creating and applying his art to canvas, textiles, furniture, home décor, messenger bags, mugs, and more. Jones's work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and festivals in New York, Nevada, and Utah, and collected privately throughout the United States and internationally. Mr. Jones has been featured on Utah’s Channel 4 News and published in various periodicals in Las Vegas and Utah. Darin Jones was born in Murray, Utah, 1972.
